Message From The President

The first Master Gardener Leadership Conference was held at Jackson’s Mill State 4-H Conference Center near Weston, West Virginia on January 13, 2007. I was very pleased that 14 Kanawha County Master Gardeners attended this day- long event. Topics covered were parliamentary procedure, social justice, leadership development, financial practices and board, officer and committee training. Wayne Bennett, Putnam County Extension Agent, has been asked to give his presentation on parliamentary procedure to the Kanawha County Master Gardener Association sometime this spring. Continuing education hours will be given for attending this workshop.

We are looking forward to hosting the 2008 State MG Conference here in Charleston. As such, we are responsible for the 2007 silent and live auction to be held in Lewisburg in June. This will correspond with the State MG Conference being held in Lewisburg June 1-3. Jennifer Soule will be the coordinator for this event. If you are interested in helping with either the 2008 conference or have auction items to donate, please contact Jennifer or me.

I want to thank Pat Force and Fran Moore for volunteering to be co-chairs for the Plant Sale. We ALL should do what we can to help out with this huge project.

Lastly, I’m sure you are all aware of the passing of Harry Wise. Harry was a great asset, mentor and teacher to many Master Gardeners and to Coonskin Park. He will truly be missed.
