Message from the President

Friends, I thank you for the privilege of serving as the President of the Kanawha County Master Gardeners for the past two years. Together we have accomplished so much. Our service to our community has included the development of our Reminiscence Therapy program for rehabilitation home residents; the teaching of the children and adults in our community at the Kanawha County Libraries, the

Kanawha County Fair, through Meet the Plants, at Craik Patton House, at Celebration Station,  at the Outdoor Classroom, through the Community Garden at Orchard Manor, at the new Habitat for Humanity development, through our Speakers’ Bureau and through Ask the Master Gardener at Walmart and Lowe’s.  We have helped to beautify our community through our Learning Garden at Coonskin Park.  We have provided formal horticultural educational programs for our members and have begun our community education programming. Our communication includes our web site, the “Gardener’s Dirt,” “The Garden Gate,” and our calendar. We have moved into the age of data management through the development of a computerized membership data base and computer generated membership cards.  And we continue to raise the money necessary for carrying out our mission through our Plant Sale, which is our signature fund raising event.  We enjoy a reputation for horticultural excellence and service in our community; and for helpfulness, kindness, hard work, dedication, appreciation and fun within our membership.  It has been an honor to serve in the Kanawha County Master Gardeners with each of you.
